Best Times to Perform Umrah: Grand Mosque Crowd Levels Explained

Find the best times to perform Umrah at Masjid al-Haram based on light, moderate and high crowd levels throughout the day.

Pilgrims planning to perform Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah can choose their timing based on expected crowd levels throughout the day.

According to information shared by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, crowd density varies considerably depending on the time of day.

The period from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. generally sees light crowd levels, making these late-night and early-morning hours a suitable option for pilgrims looking to avoid heavier crowds.

From 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., crowd density increases to a moderate level.

Crowds become lighter again between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., according to the guidance.

The busiest period is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., when the Grand Mosque experiences high crowd density for Umrah.

Pilgrims who have flexibility in their schedules may therefore consider performing Umrah outside the 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. peak period for a less crowded experience.

However, actual crowd conditions can vary depending on the day, season, prayer times, holidays, and the number of pilgrims in Makkah.
