King Khalid Airport Launches ‘Silent Airport’ Initiative
Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport begins its “Silent Airport” project, reducing audio announcements and relying more on digital flight updates.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has begun implementing its new “Silent Airport” project, aimed at creating a quieter and more comfortable environment for passengers.
The first phase of the project was launched on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at International Terminal 5.
Under the new system, the airport will reduce general audio announcements inside the terminal. Announcements will instead be mainly limited to the relevant departure gates.
Passengers will be encouraged to rely more on flight information screens and digital channels to keep track of boarding times, gate changes, delays, and other flight updates.
The airport said the initiative is designed to reduce unnecessary noise inside the terminal and provide travelers with a calmer overall airport experience.
Passengers can also receive flight updates through King Khalid International Airport’s WhatsApp service at 920020090.
Information will continue to be available through the airport’s website, information screens throughout the terminal, and the “Ask Me” passenger assistance team.
The “Silent Airport” initiative is being introduced gradually, starting with Terminal 5. King Khalid International Airport said further phases of the project will be announced as they are implemented.
Passengers travelling through Terminal 5 are therefore advised to pay closer attention to flight information screens and digital notifications, rather than relying solely on public announcements.
