Iqama Renewal and Dependent Fee Calculator
Choose the worker type and the renewal duration to see the full cost of an iqama renewal in Saudi Arabia. The calculator prorates the renewal fee, the work permit fee and insurance across the months you select, then adds the monthly work permit levy and any dependent charges.
What an iqama renewal actually costs
The base renewal fee is SAR 650 for a year for a company worker and SAR 600 for a year for a domestic worker, and both are prorated to the duration you choose — a 3-month renewal costs a quarter of the annual figure. A SAR 100 annual work permit fee applies to company workers only, and it is prorated the same way.
Health insurance is normally quoted at about SAR 600 a year for the worker and the same again for each dependent, adjusted to the renewal period, and most transactions also carry a service charge of SAR 51.75. The calculator lets you overwrite both so you can enter the exact premium your policy charges.
Work permit levy and dependent fees
The work permit levy is charged per month rather than per year: SAR 800 a month, SAR 700 a month, or exempt, depending on what Qiwa records for the establishment. Domestic workers use the SAR 800 rate or an exemption. The calculator multiplies the rate you select by the number of months in the renewal.
Each dependent sponsored on the iqama adds a levy of SAR 400 for every month of the period, plus their own prorated insurance. Where the levy grace period applies, the first 3 months of that monthly charge are removed for each dependent while the renewal fee and insurance still cover the full duration.
Confirming the official amount
These figures follow the published fee schedule, but the amount shown on Qiwa or Absher can differ because of establishment status, the insurance policy in force, concession periods or a fee update. Treat the result as a budget figure rather than an invoice.
Read the final amount in Absher or Qiwa, or ask the sponsor to share the payment screen, before transferring money. Any deduction from a worker's salary needs the worker's written agreement.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does an iqama renewal cost for a full year?
- A company worker pays SAR 650 for the iqama renewal plus a SAR 100 work permit fee, and a domestic worker pays SAR 600 with no work permit fee. Insurance, the service charge and any dependent charges are added on top.
- Is the work permit levy charged for dependents?
- No. The SAR 700 or SAR 800 monthly levy applies to the worker whose work permit is being renewed. Dependents carry a separate SAR 400 monthly levy plus their own insurance, and neither is subject to the work permit levy rate.
- What is the 3-month dependent levy grace period?
- When it applies to your case, the first 3 months of the SAR 400 monthly levy are waived for each dependent, and the calculator caps the grace at the renewal duration you selected. The renewal fee and insurance are still charged for the whole period.
- Why does the total change with the renewal duration?
- Annual components — the renewal fee, the work permit fee and insurance — are multiplied by the number of months divided by 12. The work permit levy and the dependent levy are flat monthly charges, so they are simply multiplied by the number of months.
- Who pays the iqama and levy fees?
- The employer or sponsor normally settles these charges, and Article 40 of the Saudi Labor Law puts work permit costs on the employer. Deductions from a worker's salary for any of these fees require the worker's written consent.
- How accurate is this iqama fee calculator?
- It reproduces the published fee schedule and proration rules, but the amount finally charged can differ because of insurance pricing, establishment status, concession decisions or a change in the official rates. Confirm the figure in Absher or Qiwa before paying.
