Saudi IBAN Lookup & Validator

Enter any Saudi IBAN to check its format, verify the MOD-97 checksum and identify the bank from the official SAMA code at characters five and six. Everything runs in your browser.

How a Saudi IBAN is structured

A Saudi IBAN is always 24 characters. It opens with the country code SA, followed by two check digits, then the two-digit SAMA bank code, then an 18-character account number.

The check digits are not random. They are produced with the international MOD-97 algorithm, so a single mistyped digit makes the whole number fail validation — which is exactly what this validator checks.

Finding the bank from an IBAN

Characters five and six carry the bank code assigned by the Saudi Central Bank. Code 80 is Al Rajhi, 20 is Riyad Bank, 10 is Saudi National Bank and 05 is Alinma.

The full SAMA table is listed below, so you can identify a bank yourself even without running the validator. The SWIFT or BIC code is shown alongside because international transfers usually need both.

When you need an IBAN in Saudi Arabia

SAMA has required an IBAN for electronic salary transfers since 2012, and it is also used for international wire transfers, government payments and refunds, and setting up direct debits for utilities.

Your IBAN is shown in your bank's mobile app, on your statement, and usually in the payment details of a Wage Protection System salary slip. Domestic SARIE transfers between Saudi banks are instant and free.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Saudi IBAN number?
An IBAN is an international standard format for identifying a bank account. In Saudi Arabia it is 24 characters long, starts with SA, and is required for electronic salary transfers and international wire transfers under SAMA regulations.
Is an IBAN the same as an account number?
No. Your account number is embedded inside the IBAN, but an IBAN is an extended international format that adds the country code, two check digits and the bank code in front of it.
How do I know which bank an IBAN belongs to?
Characters five and six, immediately after SA and the two check digits, hold the SAMA bank code. Enter the IBAN above and the validator reads that code for you; the full table is also listed on this page.
What does the MOD-97 check actually do?
MOD-97 is the international checksum rule for IBANs. The characters are rearranged, letters are expanded to numbers, and the remainder when divided by 97 must be exactly 1. If it is not, at least one digit is wrong.
Are domestic bank transfers in Saudi Arabia free?
Transfers between Saudi banks through the SARIE system are free and instant. International transfers are priced by each bank, typically from SAR 10 to SAR 100 depending on the destination and amount.
Where is the IBAN on my salary slip?
Salary slips processed through the Wage Protection System show the recipient IBAN in the payment details. It starts with SA followed by 22 digits, and it is also in your bank app under account details.
