Gold Rates in Saudi Arabia Today

Live gold prices per gram in Saudi riyals for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K, converted from the international spot price. Check any weight in the calculator and switch between SAR and USD.

How the Saudi gold rate is calculated

Gold trades internationally in US dollars per troy ounce. A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so the dollar price per ounce is divided by that figure to get a price per gram, then converted into riyals at the current SAR exchange rate. Because the riyal is pegged to the dollar, the local price essentially tracks the global dollar price.

There is no single official Saudi gold price. Every shop in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam is reading the same global market, so the reference rate on this page is identical across the Kingdom. What differs from store to store is the retail price built on top of it.

What the karat number means

Karat describes how much of the item is actually gold. 24K is pure gold, so its price per gram is the market rate itself. 22K is 22 parts gold to 2 parts alloy, 21K is 21 parts to 3, and 18K is 18 parts to 6, which is why each row on this page is simply the pure price multiplied by that fraction.

Saudi jewellery is most often sold as 21K, which is stamped 875 for its 87.5% gold content. Match the rate to the stamp on the item rather than assuming the top karat applies.

Why the shop price is higher than this rate

The figures on this page are bare metal, before anything the jeweller adds. Workmanship or making charges, the store's own margin, any stones or enamel, and 15% VAT on finished jewellery all sit on top of the market rate.

Qualifying investment gold sold as bullion is treated differently for VAT, and buy-back prices are normally below the rate you paid because the buyer needs room to resell. Ask for the gold weight and every charge to be listed separately, and check the timestamp on the live chip: gold moves continuously while markets are open.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one official gold price in Saudi Arabia?
No. Saudi Arabia has no state-set gold price. Every dealer quotes the same international market rate and then adds its own margin and workmanship, so the reference rate is the same across Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam while shop prices differ.
Why is the jeweller's price higher than the rate on this page?
The page shows only the value of the gold itself. A finished piece also carries making charges, the store's margin, any stones or design work and 15% VAT, all of which are added at the till.
Which rate should I use for a 21K chain?
Use the 21K row, which is the pure gold price multiplied by 21/24. Applying the 24K figure to a 21K item would overvalue it by roughly 12.5%.
Is VAT charged on gold in Saudi Arabia?
Finished jewellery and gold that does not qualify as investment bullion is charged 15% VAT. Qualifying investment-grade bullion can be treated differently under ZATCA rules, so confirm the treatment with the dealer before you buy.
Do gold rates change between cities?
The market reference rate does not. Prices can still vary between stores because each one sets its own retail margin, making charges and promotions independently.
How is the SAR price worked out from the dollar price?
The dollar price per troy ounce is converted to a price per gram using 31.1035 grams, then multiplied by the current SAR exchange rate. If the live exchange table is unavailable, the page falls back to the official 3.75 riyal per dollar peg.
