End of Service Benefit Calculator
Estimate your end of service benefit from your final monthly wage, completed service period and reason for leaving. The calculator applies the Article 84 band formula and the Article 85 resignation reductions.
How Saudi end of service benefit is calculated
Under Article 84 of the Saudi Labor Law, a worker with at least one completed year of service is entitled to a gratuity based on the last wage. The first five years earn half a month's wage for each year, and every year after the fifth earns a full month's wage.
A partial year is pro-rated with the same formula, so six months of service counts as 0.5 year. The calculator converts the years, months and days you enter into decimal years before applying the rates.
Article 85 resignation reductions
If you resign, Article 85 reduces the award by length of service: less than 2 years gives no ESB, 2 to under 5 years pays one third, 5 to under 10 years pays two thirds, and 10 years or more pays the full award.
Resignations still receive the full award when an Article 87 exception applies, such as leaving during maternity leave or within six months of marriage, or when the employer has committed a serious breach.
Full award and forfeiture cases
Employer termination, natural expiry of a fixed-term contract, mutual agreement, retirement, death and final closure of the facility are all calculated as the full Article 84 award.
Termination under Article 80 for a proven serious violation, and termination during the probation period, may forfeit the entitlement entirely. Always check the reason recorded on your final settlement.
Frequently asked questions
- Is ESB calculated on basic salary or total wage?
- Saudi Labor Law uses the last wage as the base. Fixed regular allowances may count towards it, while variable commissions or sales percentages are usually excluded when the contract clearly treats them as variable.
- What happens if I resign before two years?
- Under Article 85, resigning before completing two years of service gives no end of service award, unless a full-award exception applies.
- Do I receive full ESB if my fixed-term contract ends?
- Yes. Natural expiry of the contract or termination by the employer is generally the full Article 84 award, unless a specific legal forfeiture applies.
- Does the calculator cover Article 80 dismissal?
- Yes. Select the Article 80 option only when the employer has dismissed you for a serious violation that legally forfeits end of service benefits.
- Does unpaid leave reduce the calculation?
- Enter the completed service duration after excluding unpaid leave or any period your employer is legally allowed to exclude. Unpaid leave is not treated as service.
- How accurate is this end of service calculator?
- It reproduces the statutory Article 84 and 85 formula, but the final entitlement can change because of contract wording, wage components, deductions, unpaid leave, court interpretation or HRSD guidance.
